Non-Invasive Breast Screening with Thermography

A thermography is an infrared image of the breasts that measures subtle temperature changes in the skin associated with underlying pathology. It is a physiological test only and it cannot "see" a cancer. A thermography is not a replacement of mammography. They are different tests. Mammography can detect cancers very early, as small as a few millimeters. Interestingly, cancer produces its own blood supply which produces heat.  Thermography can identify heat changes in the body and offers another way to evaluate breast health. In addition, thermography can identify arthritis, nerve damage, vascular disease and inflammation. In short, thermography is a way to monitor breast health, not just a way to detect breast disease.

Features of thermography:

  • Non-invasive
  • No radiation exposure
  • No compression of the breasts and…no pain

It is particularly well-suited for women with dense or large breasts, both of which increase the likelihood of inaccurate mammography.

With the use of Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (Thermography), women can have breast exams without radiation, without the squeeze, and without the pain. Many women do not have their yearly breast mammogram due to the painful experience - making our breast into pancakes is not pleasant, nor is it conducive to being proactive with our breast health. Now with the use of Thermography, there is another choice available.

Thermography uses ultra-sensitive medical infrared camera and sophisticated computers to detect, analyze, and produce high-resolution images of these temperature variations. Because of the extreme sensitivity, these temperature variations may be among the earliest signs of breast cancer and/or pre-cancerous state of the breast.

Your history, & images are taken by a RN & then read by certified physicians of DITI and are kept on file for several years, for comparison.
