Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is primary health care focused on preventative medicine and the use of natural treatments to promote health and well being. The primary goal of naturopathic treatment is to address the cause of an illness rather than simply treating the symptoms. While naturopathic treatments alleviate specific symptoms, with little or no side effect, the side effects are often positive ones including better energy, weight loss, improved sleep and clarity of thought.

The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest the person in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease - Thomas Alva Edison

The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat the cause of disease naturally and to remove any blockages to the natural flow of energy that are present in the body. Blockages can show up in many forms for example, poor diet, inactivity, parasites, yeast overgrowth, toxicity, and allergies just to name a few. The goal of the naturopathic doctor is to assist the patient to remove the blockage to restore the natural balance back to the body. Given the opportunity, the body is amazing in its ability can re-gain its equilibrium and maintain a state of health.

Naturopathic Doctors

ND's in Ontario must complete a 4-year full-time program at an accredited naturopathic institution after completing an undergraduate degree. Thereafter graduates must pass licensing exams before entering private practise. Naturopathic education is comparable in length and rigor to that of a medical doctor.
